The WSIAT is pleased to announce two new Practice Directions that support fairness, consistency, and efficiency in its adjudicative processes:
Practice Direction #40 explains the WSIAT’s enhanced case management process. Enhanced case management is intended to provide early and ongoing procedural oversight by a Vice-Chair or Panel in appeals or applications that may require closer procedural attention to support the fair and efficient adjudication of the case. This Practice Direction explains how cases may be selected for enhanced case management and the types of procedural directions that may be provided.
Practice Direction #41 explains the WSIAT’s approach to leading cases. A leading case may be selected where multiple appeals or applications raise the same novel or significant issue. This Practice Direction explains why a leading case approach may be adopted, how a leading case is selected and processed, and what may happen to other cases involving the same or similar issues.

The new Practice Directions take effect on August 26, 2026.
